Osteria La Carbonara, Great typical food from Rome

IN: Good Restaurants in Rome March 8, 2013 10:17 pm 0 comments

La Carbonara, RomeI was in Rome last week-end, to run the famous Half Marathon Roma-Ostia.

As usual, I took advantage of my sports event to visit the city and discover great food (even if I usually try to be careful with food before my races).

I asked a friend of mine that lives in Rome where I could enjoy some good typical roman food and she suggested me to try l’Osteria La Carbonara.

The name describes perfectly what they are good at, Pasta alla Carbonara, one of the most famous pasta dishes in the world, typical from Rome.

This pretty restaurant is a typical Italian tavern with kitchen, opened since 1906. More than a century of delicious food!

Inside, the place is very cozy. You can feel the history of this Osteria by its furnishings and the walls fully covered of dedications and comments written by the clients. I was impressed by the number of them… all the walls are fully covered with not even a single inch of free space. I read some of them, and most talked about the great food and the good time they’ve had. Promising…

The waiter that served me was very friendly (typical roman disposition) and took me through the menu, which was very well-structured and full of yummy things. I couldn’t choose anything else rather than the typical and famous Spaghetti alla Carbanara, which made this restaurant famous in Rome. I completed my lunch with a wonderful “frittura di verdure“, another typical dish from the area.

My Spaghetti were delicious! Probably one of the best Spaghetti alla Carbonara I ever had. The pasta was perfectly cooked, “al dente (not overcooked)” and the carbonara sauce was rich and very tasty.

The frittura di verdure was very good as well. Nicely fried and crunchy.

I didn’t have any space left for dessert unfortunately, but I bet the Tiramisu was excellent. I’ve seen it from the table next to me… the customers looked very satisfied.

Price? 12 euro, including coffee and a bottle of water. Rare stuff for a restaurant not far from the Colosseo, in the centre of Rome!

Lovely experience. A must try restaurant if you are in Rome….
