Good Pizza in Twickenham? Try Masaniello

Good Pizza in Twickenham? Try Masaniello

IN: Best Food in London March 12, 2013 10:51 pm 0 comments

Pizza Vesuvio - MasanielloI’m Italian so when I eat in Italian Pizzerias abroad, including my second home country England, my expectations are very high, and almost always disregarded.

It took me a while to find a “very good” italian Pizzeria in London to trust and frequent often. One of my favourites is Masaniello, an authentic Ristorante and Pizzeria Napoletana in Twickenham.

Their Pizzas are delicious and very close to the traditional Pizza from Naples: Thick and mildly salty crust, crisp, rich topping and great flavours.

Surprisingly, they use an Electric Pizza Oven, which usually isn’t the best oven to use for traditional Italian Pizza. Normally in Italy we prefer Pizzas cooked on traditional Wood Ovens.

Heat in wood burning pizza ovens lifts pizzas into another dimension compared to conventional ovens. Despite this, Masaniello’s Pizza is great!

My favourite pizza is the Vesuvio, a fully stuffed calzone (folded pizza) with Ricotta, spicy salami and tomato. The stuffing is very rich and tasty.

Service is always efficient and staff, rigorously Italian, very friendly.

The only downside is the price. A Calzone Vesuvio costs £9,25. Perhaps a bit high for a Pizza… or maybe not considering that it’s a great pizza!
