Brownies are probably the most famous american confectionary known all over the world. They were Invented in the 19th century in Chicago and nowadays you can find them in most cafes and bakeries of the world, especially here in the UK. Unfortunately, I never had the chance to try memorable brownies in my trips in the US. I had some good ones but nothing that tickled my imagination. I haven’t visited Chicago yet, I’m sure the best ones can be found there…
I love brownies, my wife’s are very yummy and I can’t complain about the ones you can find in most london’s cafe, but the one I had at L’Eto caffe was simply delightful! The best brownie I had so far, and definitely the best one I had in London.
L’Eto Caffe is a nice cafe in Soho (they have other locations as well) and they do freshly made daily cakes and pastries. I’ve never been disappointed by their cakes, but the Brownie I had the other night was simply the best ever.
It was a rich and moist brownie with semi sweet chocolate, topped with almonds and walnuts. The amazing part was the delightful aftertaste of “Amaretto”. Not sure if it was the almonds or the italian “Amaretto” that made that distinctive taste. Amazing! The portion was the perfect size: not too big, not too small. Actually, maybe it was a bit too small, but only because my wife and friends loved it as much us me….
A piece of cake at L’Eto varies from £3.50 to £5. My brownie was £3.50.
